About

Hello there I’m Ruben David, and thanks for visiting ProjectsWithJason.com. Although the domain may sound familiar from before, you and I are starting a fresh chapter together. My background is a little different than what you might expect.

I grew up in a small suburb just outside Atlanta, Georgia. From a young age I was fascinated by how things were built, staged and presented not just in theatre, but in real-world craft and production. That curiosity led me to study at Georgia State University, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Production Design and Theatre Technology. While there I learned how sets are built, how lighting and sound are calibrated, and how all of the moving parts behind the scenes make a performance feel effortless.

My first job after graduation was as an assistant stage-manager at a regional theatre company. I coordinated crews, ordered gear, solved last-minute hiccups, and frequently found myself on site at odd hours installing lights or rearranging props. It taught me that there is always more to a product than what meets the eye whether that product is a stage prop, a sound system, or something you buy for use in your home.

How I Got Here

Around 2018 I moved to Austin, Texas, drawn by the vibrant creative scene and the opportunity to freelance in production design, building sets, doing installations for live-events, and eventually working in the video-production space. I enjoyed it, but after a few years I realized what really excited me was the gear: the microphones, the lighting hardware, the tools for creative projects, and how those tools translated into everyday life.

In early 2025 I launched this website as a fresh persona no more custom stage-sets, but a place where I could test, use and recommend the actual gear and products I rely on. Whether it’s a portable LED panel I bring to local shoots, a wireless microphone used for backyard podcasting, or a power drill I wouldn’t leave home without I started sharing what works, what doesn’t, and how you can avoid the common pitfalls I witnessed behind the scenes.

What You’ll Find Here

When you explore ProjectsWithJason.com, you’ll find product reviews that are far from gimmicky. I’m not here to chase cool trends or push items I haven’t used. I believe that if a product is going to make a difference in your day-to-day workflow, it needs to stand up to real use. My reviews reflect real-world testing, questions I asked during long work days, and the kind of details you may only hear about after something doesn’t quite work the way it promised.

I’ll cover things like value for money, durability, ease of use, and whether a “professional grade” label actually means something in the home-or-studio context. I work with the affiliate partners who let me link to products, but I’m not beholden to them if something doesn’t perform, I’ll say so. My goal is simple: to help you make smarter choices, avoid buyer’s remorse, and get gear that earns its keep.

My Lifestyle and Why It Matters

Though I still live in Austin, I travel often to workshops, co-working studios, and hands-on project builds with friends and colleagues. On weekends you might find me assembling a backyard video rig, testing new lighting for my growing podcast space, or tinkering with power tools while renovating a small home office. All of these experiences feed directly into what I write about it’s not theory, it’s real.

When I’m not climbing ladders or adjusting white-balance, I enjoy a strong cup of coffee, the open-air live music scene, and occasional camping trips where gear gets put to the test by wind, gravel and unexpected bugs. That means the products I review aren’t only “fine in a cozy studio” they’re challenged, lived with, and vetted.
